October News 2014 – No. 1

Thank you for your ongoing support of the Rescue Mission for Children. This is the Eleventh regular newsletter to keep you informed of what’s happening at the Centre. Each newsletter I will share a little of the journey one child has had before they joined us. It was the best weekend we have shared with our friends Sally from Australia and Paul a Korean American student. Sally spent the time on Saturday morning teaching the younger children English. The children respond to her teaching so quick and were able to follow her instruction within the first hour of learning with her. We have had so many laughs and it was a moving lesson. The children were telling me to ask Sally if she could come back ASAP so they can have the English lesson with her again. The bigger children had Math and English lessons with Samuel and Paul. The bigger children learning from Samuel and Paul as friends was quite a unique approach. They exchanged different methods of learning and were treating the lesson as friends doing homework together. Paul and the bigger children thoroughly enjoyed their time together and we will wait until his next visit again.

Boochoo, a 12 year old Akha girl comes from the Burma border and she has been with us for this year. Boochoo and her brothers and sisters moved through various locations right through Burma before she reached the Akha Academy. Boochoo has never known what school is and this is her first year going to school. Boochoo now has the stability of one place, can go to school and smiles everyday.

Feature Train the Trainers

This weekend in Maesuai district office had a fair event where you can get cheap goods. The children wanted to go and have a look in the fair, so we decided to all go and see it. Most of the goods were the same as the goods in a dollar shop where everything is 20 THB only, but what the children most enjoyed was having ice-cream cones. There were so many flavours of the local Thai ice-cream such as coconut milk ice cream, Yam and Taro, Durian ice cream.

Thank you for your prayers, love and ongoing support.
